Experience

I've had the occasion to teach English and composition in two unique settings. First, UW provided me with a structural curriculum that helped me build the foundation for my own curriculum at the Laramie County Community College. I have experience teaching rhetoric and the development of rhetorical strategies and essays, critical thinking and reading skills, as well as comprehension of fiction and many forms of nonfiction "texts" gathered from journalism, popular culture, music and film. In addition, I have plenty of classroom experience with modern and contemporary American literature, as well as American literature created in and about the West and American frontier. During my second Master's in American Studies I co-taught an introduction to museum studies, and an introduction to cultural diversity in American culture. Through both M.A.'s in English and American Studies, I gained a deeper understanding of gender, class, region, occupational identity, popular culture, material culture, and food studies.

Hobbies

I absolutely love food culture. I have always been obsessed with cooking shows, I read cookbooks, follow popular blogs, and regularly try creating new recipes. My partner and I are interested in starting our own pop-ups in and around Erie County, too. I am interested in the American West, and devoted my first Master's degree to immersing myself in the literature and culture of the West in Wyoming. I wrote about E. Annie Proulx's "Close Range: Wyoming Stories." Later, in American Studies, I wrote about what I've been doing almost my entire adult life: waitressing. Currently, I am interested in how people perceive themselves and construct an identity based on the lore of their work and what that means in their lives. I love giant, fresh water lakes, traveling anywhere I can, reading short stories, astrology, and interacting with and nurturing other people.
